Mindfulness Workshops

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR)

This program is designed for those who are interested in improving their physical and psychological health, and are willing to invest some time and effort to do so. MBSR can alleviate or reverse stress-related conditions as heart disease, high blood pressure, chronic pain, anxiety and panic disorders, cancer, digestive problems and sleep disorders. It can also significantly relieve stress related to relationships, parenting, family, lifestyle and work.

Due to unforeseen circumstances there will be no workshop this fall, but there will be an All-Day retreat at Upaya on November 2nd, 2019.

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the cultivation of attention to our moment-to-moment experience. It accesses our innate wisdom, bringing insight and clarity to our experiences as well as greater relaxation and self-acceptance. I teach techniques that allow one to focus awareness on body sensations, thoughts, and emotions, and strengthen the ability to respond more consciously to tension and stress. The class meets for 2.5 hours once a week for eight weeks, including one all-day session. Sessions include discussion and sharing as well as instruction and practice of specific techniques. For maximum benefit from the program, participants are requested to practice on their own at least 45 minutes daily and read specific chapters from Full Catastrophe Living by Jon Kabat-Zinn.
